Virtual town hall | Climate justice, but with Social justice!

On November 30, 2021, we hosted a virtual town hall on the intersection of climate change and social justice.

📣 Speakers:

  • Khalil Osiris, founder of Truth & Reconciliation Conversations, said "We will either find a way, or we will create a new one"!
  • Fazeela Mubarak, co-founder of Wild Heart Kenya & member of Fridays For Future MAPA (Most Affected People & Areas), said "Our very existence is a rebellion itself. You can try to erase us but we will always be there. If you are in a position of privilege, always speak out!"

In this townhall, we talked about climate, but not only. We examined how climate and the response to climate change are impacting differently people from different backgrounds, as well as countries. Generally, many victims of climate change also have disproportionately low responsibility for causing the emissions responsible for climate change in the first place. This is the case within countries and between countries.

An example is the combined emissions of the richest 1% of the global population account for more than the poorest 50%.

We looked specifically at how they do this in relation to fossil fuels, since Atlas just launched a campaign to Ban Fossil Fuel subsidies.

If you missed the talk, you can view it here

And as precisely we mentioned during the panel, we like to make sure that we translate discussions and good thoughts into action. After spending an hour discussing the importance of climate justice, we are thus asking you to spend a few seconds to sign our petition and spread the word to achieve just that: click here & sign our campaign to ban fossil fuel subsidies!
